After starting her own luxury design firm (Britany Simon Design House), which combines her fashion-forward style with sophistication, Britany has garnered a notable client roster, competed on HGTV’s Design Star, and ventured into TV and video production as a designer on many notable shows. WHEN DID YOU START YOUR COMPANY?
I launched Britany Simon Design House in 2010, so we celebrated 10 years in business this year.
WHAT WAS THE BEST COCKTAIL YOU'VE EVER HAD AND WHERE WAS IT?
Nothing beats a classic extra dirty martini at City Hall Steakhouse.
WHY DID YOU WANT TO WORK/START AT THIS COMPANY?
My passion has always been in interior design, and after working in the build side of design for 5 years, I wanted more creative control and freedom with my own clients and launched BSDH and have never looked back.
HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF QUITTING? WHAT DID YOU DO TO GET YOU BACK ON TRACK?
Being a business owner and a creative can be a daily struggle. Regardless of the stresses of being an entrepreneur, I have never regretted taking the leap of starting my own company, and its fulfilling on so many levels.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO LISTEN TO IN YOUR CAR? (PODCASTS, MUSIC, AUDIOBOOKS, ETC.)
Typically I listen to my favorite apple stations, but if I am feeling the need for some inspiration, my favorite design podcast is A Well Designed Business with Luann Nigara.
WHO IS SOMEONE YOU LOOK UP TO? (CAN BE FAMOUS, FAMILY… OR FAMOUS FAMILY.)
The ultimate icon for me is Kelly Wearstler. She has a unique style all her own and has parlayed that into a design and fashion empire. She is infinitely inspirational to me.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO WHEN YOU ARE NOT WORKING?
I have two kids ages 6 and 4, so typically we are busy playing lego, games, or on a bike ride together. I also love spending time with my girlfriends and go out of a great meal and drinks to connect.
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU ARE MOST PROUD OF?
I am most proud of being a mom and a business owner, and showing my kids that girls can do everything.
IF YOU COULD GIVE ANY ADVICE TO YOURSELF 10 YEARS AGO WHAT WOULD THAT BE?
Trust your gut, it will never steer you wrong.
