What to Do in Puerto Peñasco Mexico: Your Rocky Point Guide

Your group chat is asking the big question again: beach weekend? Rocky Point (officially Puerto Peñasco, Mexico) is the answer. It's close enough to drive after work, far enough to feel like a real getaway, and there's something to do in every season.
Whether it's a school break, a birthday trip, or a girls weekend that's been "on the calendar" since March, here's what to do in Puerto Peñasco, how to get there, and where to stay (and a few ways to make it way easier on yourself).
Best Time to Visit Rocky Point
Rocky Point works year-round, but spring and fall are the sweet spots. In October, for example, daytime highs average around 88°F, nights cool to the low 60s, and the water averages about 81°F, so you get real swimming without the July meltdown. (source)
Summer is hot and packed with Arizona families escaping the heat. Spring break brings the biggest crowds of the year, so book early if that's your window. Winter is quieter, with cooler water and easy restaurant reservations.
Getting to Rocky Point from Phoenix

It's just under 3 hours from Phoenix to the Lukeville border crossing, then about another hour to Rocky Point. Leave Friday after lunch and you're watching the sunset with a drink in hand. (source)
Before you go, check these off:
Passport book, passport card, or Enhanced Driver's License for getting back into the U.S.
Mexican auto insurance (your U.S. policy won't cover you in Mexico)
Your FMM tourist permit, which you can fill out online ahead of time and get stamped at the crossing (free for stays of 7 days or less)
Vehicle registration in the car
A plan to cross during border hours, currently listed as 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Good news: Rocky Point is in the Sonora Free Zone, so you don't need a vehicle import permit. Rules and hours can change, so double-check official sources before you hit the road. (source)
What to Do in Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point)
Do absolutely nothing on the beach
Seriously, it counts as an activity. Sandy Beach is the classic pick for long walks, a cooler, and a speaker.
Get out on the water
A boat day is the move for groups. Book a sunset cruise, or head out to Bird Island to see the sea lions up close. Nothing gets a group chat photo dump going faster.
Hit the Old Port
The Malecón is where you go for fresh shrimp, street tacos, souvenir shopping, and people watching. Go around golden hour and stay for dinner.

Catch every sunset
Rocky Point sunsets are the whole reason some people come back every year. Pick a rooftop, a patio, or just your condo balcony and make it a nightly group ritual.
Plan one big night
Birthday dinner, bachelorette night out, or a styled condo party with decor and a private chef. One planned moment makes the whole trip feel like an event.
Take a day trip
If your crew likes adventure, El Pinacate Biosphere Reserve has volcanic craters and huge desert dunes, and it's best done in the cooler months.
Where to Stay in Rocky Point with Your Group

For groups, a beach house beats a string of hotel rooms every time. One kitchen, one living room, one spot where everyone ends up at night.
Our go-to is the Oceanview Beach House. It sleeps 10 across 5 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, it's steps from the beach, and guests rave about it. There's a full kitchen for group breakfasts, a carport for 2 cars, and a big TV for the rare moment you're not outside.
Book the house, and we'll handle the rest: a stocked fridge, styled decor, and the plan for your big night.
Skip the Grocery Run: Arrive to a Stocked Fridge

You know the drill. Four hours in the car, everyone's hungry, and somehow the first stop in paradise is a crowded grocery store with a cart full of water, limes, and tortilla chips.
Not this time. Our Rocky Point fridge stocking and grocery delivery means your condo is ready before you pull in. Drinks cold, snacks out, breakfast handled. You walk in, drop your bags, and head straight to the beach.
Send us your list (or let us build one for your group), your condo info, and your arrival time. We'll take it from there.
